Introduction
South Africa’s depiction in movies is always that of mystery and majesty. With its breathtaking nature, vibrant communities, and larger-than-life safari– it is an ideal destination for exploration and adventure. But aside from South Africa’s appeal in this regard, it’s also the perfect place for people trying to look for a sensory and internal breakthrough because of the many experiences it has to offer. It’s a place filled with possibilities that can open one’s eye to new horizons. Before we fully delve into my recent trip to South Africa, (the blog will be up next! Stay tuned!) let’s first learn how I got my visa!
South Africa Visa Requirements
What do you need to know before gathering the requirements?
Ensure that you already have a schedule in mind. It’s best to know how long you plan to stay because a South Africa tourist visa is free as long as you stay in the country for less than 30 days. Since this blog will focus on my experience, I can only share how to acquire a tourist visa.
What requirements do you need to prepare?
The requirements to acquire a South Africa visa is pretty straightforward. You’ll need the following documents for tourist visa applications:
Duly Accomplished Application Form
You have to accomplish the application form as accurately and truthfully as you can. If you’re also traveling with children, there’s also a separate form for them. You may access the forms here: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/phl/en/zaf

Applying for a South Africa Visa
I lodged my application at VFS Makati branch. I opted for the courier service for the convenience and so I don’t need to claim my passport in Makati. The entire process is usually easy and short especially if you submit complete requirements. My passport arrived on September 3, 2022 when I was still in Dumaguete. I applied for the visa on August 26th so overall, it only took 8 days. But to be more accurate, if we’re not going to include the holiday and the weekend, it only took 5 working days for the South African embassy to process my visa application.
For more information about the South African Embassy here in the Philippines, it’s located at: 29th Floor, Yuchengco Tower, RCBC Plaza, #6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City, Metro Manila.
You may also visit their website here: http://www.dirco.gov.za/manila/contact.html
Breakdown of Fees
Processing Fee (service) of VFS: Php 2,000
Courier service from Makati to my residence: Php 249
Take Note
Do enough research on the do’s and don’ts for entering South Africa. Be familiar with the language and customs, and be aware and sensitive enough to the world that will be opened to you. There are also forbidden items to bring and other goods which need to be paid first. To avoid inconvenience and conflict, do look into it in advance. All the best in your visa application and good luck!
